The First Two Months

On a warm sunny day in early May 1964 the three founders of the club, Stan Burgess, Chris Scott-Warwick and Ron Wheeler were seated in a lead lighted bay window to discuss Stan Burgess’s latest idea, “the founding of a new folk club”. Also with them was Ron’s girl friend Kathy Harris. Drinking a decent pint of beer they wrote out a list of aspirations for the club, many of which still stand true today.

History of the Black Diamond Folk Club

September 2010 saw us start our 47th continuous season as a centre of folk music in Birmingham. During the 46 years that we have been running, we have been in 17 different venues and had numerous club names. We have booked in the region of 1121 guests, and had around 77,000 audience members attend the club (but not all on one night).

Club Posters Produced During The Old Crown Years

The following posters were all hand drawn/coloured by Mick Bramich in the 1970's. Mick was a long standing resident of the club and is now living in Devon. He has written a number of tutorial books on playing the Anglo Concertina in the Irish style.
