14th Tuga Tribe and Matthew Price with Nathalie Fischer
- Author: Paul Ryan
- 2012-2013
Tuga Tribe are Miguel Quintero (bagpipes and flutes) & Andres Fuzeiro (percussion) and hail from Lisbon . They sing & play traditional Portuguese tunes on pipes and side drum as well as repertoire from the UK and the rest of Europe too; Miguel plays Gallician and Irish pipes as well, and Andres is a wizard on just about every form of percussion I've ever seen.
Matthew price and Nathalie Fischer (Ireland, somewhere in County Clare...) sing and play folk and blues.Looking for common narratives in songs (Hard Times of Old England/Hard Time Killing Floor Blues for example), and imagining how songs that didn't reach the States may have sounded if they had. We also sing unaccompanied trad stuff from our respective backgrounds (Cecilia Costello/George Dunn/Albert Shaw etc for Matthew and Irish trad for Nath)
Come along and support young folk students from Newcastle University.

We welcome back Sara Gray to the club. You can’t fail to admire her empathy with a club audience. Come and be captivated by her songs, and superb banjo playing. She has a wealth of knowledge to impart about the songs and tunes that crossed the Atlantic to become part of American folklore. Listen out for her stories and humour.
Derek has gained an international following as a fine singer of traditional songs as well an astute interpreter of contemporary material. He has a warm personality which he uses to win over his audience. Added to all this is his gift of fitting tunes to other people’s stories and poems and there is many a song being sung on the folk scene with Derek’s tune attached.
Bob Fox ‘Just an Old War Horse Tour’ ***Ticket Night*** Fresh from his success on stage as Songman in War Horse. When Bob sings a song about his beloved North East he imbues it with a magic that makes it his alone. Expect songs of love, joy, work and humour, sometimes all four in one song all accompanied by a wonderful guitar style that can both drive or embellish a number. This man has served his time at his craft and it shows. Get your tickets early as I am polishing the house full sign.
This is Bryony Griffith and Will Hampson’s first visit to the club. They have escaped from the Demon Barbers for some solo gigs and are very welcome. Byony performs on fiddle and vocals and Will on melodeon and they bring with them a feast of traditional, songs and tunes. Look out for their award winning album, Lady Diamond and bring your voices.
