Apr 11th. Ron Taylor and Jeff Gillett
- Author: Paul Ryan
- 2013-2014
We’ve booked Ron in various guises over a long time and it is a pleasure to welcome him back with Jeff. One of their CDs is called “Both Shine As One” and is a very apt title. Ron’s huge repertoire of ballads is always being added to and it is a joy to listen to him, while Jeff’s excellent accompaniment seems tailor made (no pun intended). I have heard Jeff’s work with artists such as Jim Causley and the late Sarah Morgan, always with the same expertise and passion.

We welcome the return of Judy Cook who is on tour from U.S.A and is one of its finest singers in the tradition. Quite often we can see that a song hailed from here and has retained the story and some of the characters but has evolved to embrace both cultures.Others are completely home grown and she gives us an unique opportunity to hear them. They are all delivered with love and some times humour. There will be choruses so bring your voices.
A proud Devonian , Jim has many fans country wide who enjoy his singing and wonderful accordion playing. Songs from the tradition as well as the best from contemporary writers will be on offer with plenty of opportunity to join in the chorus. This will be a busy night so came early.
Lynne and Pat are now firm favourites at the club. Both honed their skills singing and playing with various groups. As a duo their repertoire ranges from the tradition to music hall and contemporary ditties. Their sense of fun is shared with the audience and you get plenty of chances to sing the choruses.
Jeff Wesley hails from Northamptonshire where he farmed for many years before retiring. He is highly regarded as a traditional folk singer with a wide collection of songs collected over many decades from the British Isles, his home county and 'across The pond'. They are all performed in a quiet, often humorous and unassuming way, but nevertheless he captivates his audiences so well that they forget to join in the choruses, it has been said. Jeff also started the famous Whittlebury Song and Ale gathering which has been running for over 30 years.
