We are always pleased to have the Snapes back at the club. There is no one quite like them, being equally at home with traditional material or songs from the music hall and variety days. Barbara’s lovely clear voice and Peter’s sensitive melodeon are a joy to the ear. The material is delivered with a light touch that belies a professional and well honed performance. They are constantly adding to their repertoire. So come early they are very popular.
Roy is no stranger to the club and he brings his skill as a fine concertina player and singer. He can move effortlessly from a traditional ballad to shanty to music hall ditty. His program is peppered with songs from his beloved Cheshire and his self-penned songs sit comfortably alongside the genre and sung by other artists. A night not to be missed - can you join in the choruses you bet?
Jeff and Elaine Gillette perform with humour and warmth both traditional and modern folk songs; watch out for Jeff’s settings of William Blake’s ‘Songs of Innocence and Experience’. They sing unaccompanied vocal harmony or songs enhanced by Jeff’s superb accompaniments on guitar, English concertina, Appalachian dulcimer and mandola. They have just released their second CD: ‘Different Stories All Together’.
We welcome Enda on his first visit to us a guest, though he is no stranger to these shores from his home in Australia. He has a strong voice, which along with his accomplished guitar playing will have you enthralled. His songs range from the poignant to the humorous most of them self penned; they reflect both his Irish roots and his present home. He is just at home in a folk club as the concert stage and has an easy rapport with the audience.
Pete Grassby. Is one of our favourite guests, hailing from Coventry but seldom at home as he travels the length and breadth of this country .He has many strings to his bow being a soloist, but also playing with his own ceilidh band. Those of you who are festival goers know him in his guise as a seller and repairer of all things musical whilst passing on sound and helpful advice. Expect superb melodeon playing along with a wonderful collection of songs and tunes. Plenty of opportunity to sing along.
