Laura Smyth and Ted Kemp

Laura Smyth and Ted Kemp, a young couple much sought after on the club circuit that, due to circumstances beyond our control, were unable to appear at the club in Nov 2020. It gives us great pleasure to welcome them back. Not only are they fine singers who perform songs from the rich heritage of our tradition, they are also excellent musicians playing English concertina, 5-string banjo, cello, and guitar. Come and join in the choruses.

Oct 7th. Dick Miles

Dick Miles
Dick Miles

It is great that Dick has included us on his brief visit from Ireland where he has now resided for some time. A stalwart of the English folk scene (he hails originally from London), he has been singing and playing since the early seventies. What to expect! He is a superb concertina player and has a vast repertoire of English ballads and songs; you will have plenty of opportunity to join in the choruses.

30th Sept. Steve & Sandra Harrison

Steve & Sandra Harrison
Steve & Sandra Harrison

Steve & Sandra Harrison, remember Quartz with their friends Judith & Pete Gleave, have been performing, still with Judith (since lovely bass Pete responded to the "Call up yonder") & with the addition of Kendal friend Jen Wilson, since they moved to live in the Lake District 10 years ago.

The quartet is called Close Quarters, unaccompanied harmony is still their style. Steve & Sandra have been active as a duo during the pandemic on Zoom, and received great feedback.

Steve & Sandra are heading south in the autumn on a mini tour and so looking forward to seeing friends old and new in middle England and the Welsh Borders.

What to expect, some new songs, plus original songs from Steve, and some favourites for you to lend some harmonies.

July 1st. Benny Graham.

Benny Graham
Benny Graham

We have only one reason for booking this guy and that is the joy he brings to performing at clubs, ceilidhs and concerts.  Folk gatherings of all sorts have benefitted from having him and his vast repertoire to entertain them. What to expect: Shanties, ballads and even some music hall numbers. His musicianship is first rate and he still has time to be one of “The Pitmen Poets” So there you have it come along and join in.

Steve Turner

We welcome back Steve Turner to the club. Steve is one of the many guests we had to reschedule so it is great to have him back at the Diamond. He hails from a long family line of wonderful Concertina players and is also a fine ballad singer. He is at home on the concert stage as well as an intimate folk club room like ours.  We have booked Steve down through the years and yet he always manages to sound fresh and new. Come along and be enchanted by his easy manner and bring your voice for the choruses.
