May 27th. Jamie McCoan and Stuart Estell.

Jamie McCoan and Stuart Estell Jamie McCoan and Stuart Estell are two of our regular singers at the club that have contributed to many a successful night. Jamie has appeared as a guest up and down the country at clubs and festivals. His forte is songs by contemporary writers such as Kieran Halpin, Steve Tilston and he probably knows more about Jake Thackray then most. Stuart is a fine concertina and guitar player and has an enviable repertoire of English and American  traditional songs. He seeks out wonderful versions of these and can hold the audience mesmerised by his rendition of songs you thought you knew. This joint guest night is a departure for us and has come about by requests from Our audience.

May 13th. “The Wilsons” - ***Sold out***

“The Wilsons”***Ticket night*** Yes you saw them at the Albert Hall or the Sage Gateshead but tonight you can hear them at the Lamp. Teesside’s famous singing family “The Wilsons” are coming to help us celebrate our 52nd Birthday. The expression the wall of sound could have been invented for these guys, with five strong voices singing the songs they love in their unique way. From a repertoire spanning 40 years they sing songs of the land and sea, certainly about British heroes, but mainly about the common man who toiled to feed the family.Their stories are imbued with the dignity of labour served up with commitment. They will raise the roof but also raise a smile with their banter. Come early, but come with a ticket, as it will be a sell out.

April 15th. Laura Smyth and Ted Kemp.

Laura Smyth and Ted KempThis evening as part of our policy to introduce at least six new acts to the club a year we welcome  Laura Smyth and Ted Kemp. A young couple who are very sought after on the club circuit and it is easy to see why. They perform songs from the rich heritage of our tradition and while they are fine unaccompanied singers but they couple this with English concertina, 5-string banjo, cello, and guitar. I can’t wait to see them at the Diamond.

April 1st. We welcome back Dave Webber and Anni Fentiman.

We welcome back Dave Webber and Anni Fentiman to the club where they have made many friends down the years. You will hear some of the finest songs in the tradition sung both as harmonies and solos. Each of them are more than capable of carrying a night single handed but then you would miss the gentle humour mainly directed at each other and the harmonies that flow from it. Dave with his song writer’s hat on is well respected by the folk community, so I know we will benefit from some of those as well. Bring your vocal chords.
