Damien Barber and Mike Wilson. It is lovely to see them back in spite of their very busy schedules and other commitments. This is a duo that goes from strength to strength and they are a pair of tried and trusted singers with a pedigree to die for. They sing songs from both the North and south east traditions, as well as the best of contemporary writers and their repertoire is rooted in the songs and labours of the common man. Two strong voices ably accompanied by Damien on concertina and guitar. Come early for a seat and be prepared to sing.
Janet Russell is making a return visit to the Diamond. A treasure trove of Scottish traditional songs sit beside songs of social comment, all delivered in her unique voice and accompanied on guitar. With a selection of self penned numbers and some diddling throw in (that’s mouth music to you and me) you will get more than your money’s worth. Come along, sing the choruses and see why we have been booking her down through the years
Tom Lewis is no stranger to the club and it is great to have him back. For songs of the sea he has very few equals, but he is just as adept with songs of the land. A large warm personality who is at home both in a club and on a maritime festival stage. He is no slouch at song composition, with most of his songs going straight in to the folk cannon. His accompaniment on button box or uke is first rate and his sense of humour is a joy to behold. Bring your lungs you’ll need them.
This is a coming together of Carolyn Robson, Paul Hutchinson and Kevin Dempsey and each of them could hold an evening on their own. Carolyn’s superlative voice has had us mesmerised whenever she has appeared before, Kevin is known for his wonderful guitar playing and Paul is a brilliant accordionist. Expect music and song, both ancient and modern, but come early as we expect they will garner a lot of interest.
